Baby Food, Freebies, and Fun

So I decided I wanted to try making my own baby food for Gavin. I have plenty of time and always enjoy trying something new. Plus I think it's cheaper, slightly healthier as the fruits/veggies are fresher, and it's more convenient for me to serve. My friend Liz and I got together, washed, peeled, and steamed pears, carrots, apples, and sweet potatoes. We then froze them in ice cube trays. Once they were set, we transfered to freezer bags. It didn't take long to make lots of servings. And the best part is each cube is the perfect sized serving! I just pop a cube in the microwave for about 15 secs so that it barely melts and doesn't get very hot, stir it up, and serve it. We made enough food to last about 6 weeks for under $10. If you're interested in making your own baby food, here is a couple websites I used: #1 and #2.

Gavin went in for his 6 1/2 month check up last wednesday. He weighed 16 lbs. 2 oz. (25th percentile) and is 27" long (75th percentile). He got 3 shots and 1 oral vac. I felt bad for the poor guy. He got shots in BOTH thighs. This is the face he kept pulling all day. It cracked me up!

Fun stats: Gavin has gained over 11 lbs and grown 8" since birth. WOW!!! He's almost quadrupled his birth weight!

Last Saturday, we took a mini staycation and went down to the resevior. We put our swim suits on, grabbed a couple decks of cards, and headed to the wonderful beach of Swift Creek Resevior (haha). It was a gorgeous day and there were tons of sail boats on the water.

This week was our week for freebies. We got free root beer floats at Sonic on Wednesday (we braved hail storms and severe storm warnings to get these!), free ice cream cones at Friendly's on Saturday, and free samples at Costco (ok, so we do Costco like every week!). Guess we're just a bunch of moochers! :)

Here's some fun photos we've taken lately.

Gavin's newest thing is to give BiG wET KisSeS! (open mouthed and drooly!:)

Me getting even. :)

Davis might kill me for posting this one, but it cracks me up! This is "Lion Davis."

I love that picture of Gavin with his hair spiked up and his eyes open wide! It's so cute!!! Good job on making baby food! That's a smart idea. Maybe with the next one we will have to try it. Does it stink as much as the canned food? If it doesn't I'm definetly trying it! It got challenging to try and feed Joel and not smell the baby food!!! Good luck and can't wait to see more pics!
